Cassie’s recollections…
One day this big brute of a white cat showed up at the house! Mom actually brought him home from the Clubhouse at Waikoloa Village Golf Course – she said because he had Cancer and someone needed to help him. She took him to our Vet, Auntie Annette, who told Bubba, “no more burgers and fries”, then took off his ears to keep the Cancer from spreading.
Can you imagine bringing home a cat like this!
He even pushed me off the fence I walked every day, thinking he could chase me away from the Waikoloa house, but I showed him! I stayed and took every opportunity to yell at him.
For all our hissing at each other over the years, I spent Bubba’s last day with him. I guess when you get to be 20 and can still hold your own, you should get some respect.
Bubba spent most of his time with Bo… sometimes I miss him.
Mom’s notes:
While living in Hawaii, my husband and I were having lunch at a local restaurant and noticed a stray, white cat with bleeding, ulcerated ears begging for food at our feet. When we could not get anyone else to take him to a vet, we did. Then we took him home. The vet had removed most of his ears, giving him a “bald” look and told him “no more burgers and fries” (he tipped the scales at a modest 16 lbs). Cassie, our long haired orange cat resented him immediately and he made it known to all of us that he did not want to share a house with her. He was sent to “his room” (a large crate) when he misbehaved. Puki just ignored both of them. With a lot of attention, love, and understanding, Bubba learned to live with all of us.
After my husband died, I returned to Arizona and brought with me the 3 rescued cats, plus a new little fostered kitten named Bo. From day one, Bubba and Bo bonded. For a cat who chased other cats from his restaurant domain, it was wonderful to see him accept this adorable long hair white cat with big blue eyes who wanted only to curl up with him, run with him, and share a bowl of food with him.
Today, at 19, Bubba weighs a svelte 11 lbs, is cancer free, and follows me around, with a wistful look, finds a nice sunny place for those longer naps, and tolerates Bo’s “attacks”..
Somehow, he chose us that day, and every day since he has been loved and appreciated. Bubba was my gift. An unexpected bundle of love.

Nice!
